Video games with good stories.

Personally, I enjoy games the most when it has a good gripping storyline to go along with it. The Mass Effect series is my all time favorite games because of this fact alone. On top of that, the gameplay is intuitive as well. But when it comes to games like Halo or Gears of War, I would play through their campaign once and just be done with them. Its because of the story. You want to kill aliens, blah blah blah.. But the characters and story telling is as dull as watching paint dry. If Halo was a movie instead of a game, it would probably go straight to DVD.

Now if you a look at a game like Assassin’s Creed, it had the same problems Halo has but opposite. A great interesting story with repetitive gameplay. But this problem was solved by the time the sequel came around. Thats why the Assassin’s Creed series is also a favorite of mine. With each sequel, the gameplay became just as good as the storytelling itself. I guess games like Halo and Gears are more respected for their online play. But in my eyes, I think a great game should be based on how well you can balance a story and gameplay equally without having to sacrifice either.
